A Little Book That Changed My Focus…

I’ve been looking for new project for MyArtsySide for 2026. It’s been a struggle. Put this on top of the same challenge for my other blog at RJsCorner, I have mostly just been spinning my tires of procrastination. I was determined to resolve it before the end of January. Well, I missed it but not by too much. I was browsing Amazon for books that might give me a clue for what I will do for the year.

The book as shown to the right is made up of one and two-page observations from everyday life. Since I am pretty much homebound now in the RetCom, that sounded right up my alley.

I will be using this little book as inspiration for my new “I Noticed” artsy category going forward. In addition to my usual photo and digital images I will attempt to master some hand-drawn stuff similar to the “I Noticed” book.

Another type of art I hope to become accomplished at is macro-photography, that is taking magnified closeups of everyday things and then quizzing you as to what they are. I will admit that MyArtsySide is just not getting the views I had hoped for it. I am not going to give up just yet, but that might happen sometime down the road.

Plain & Simple

I have been doing a lot of contemplation about my 2026 project here so I thought I would do something plain and simple for today’s artsy. If I had perfect recall maybe I could remember making something very similar in my early years. But I think my mind is full enough without remembering EVERY detail of my life. In fact perfect recall might be very excruciating.

Speaking of next years’ plans, my last serious thoughts were to make line art the theme for 2026, but I have convinced myself that is too much too soon. I need to go down this artsy path some more before tackling it as an “essence of life” art project

Next week I will give you details on my new projects for 2026. I think I will enjoy them very much and I certainly hope you do too.

DD48- All Wrapped Up

DD48-All Wrapped Up

I know for a lot of people, the Fall season is the most beautiful season of the year. But, as usual, I generally see it as a time when things are dying, or maybe I just see Winter with all the ice hazards just around the corner. Yeah, the very brief Fall colors are nice, but they quickly disappear.

I first thought I saw the doodle above as a bird, but then I quickly saw it as possibly a self-portrait of me wrapped up in an inescapable cocoon of many fabrics.

I look at these types of moods as reminding me that without some dark periods we would not enjoy the good ones as much.

MME58 – RetCom Drums

Being deaf for 35 years now, I usually don’t pay much attention to musical presentations here at my RetCom (retirement community). But this last April there was one that I attended.

It was an African Drums Presentation.

Drums are one thing that I sorta can “hear” by vibrations on my chest. I also definitely enjoyed the colorful outfits too.

DD50 – Wright Bicycle

While I am in the mood of “rule breaker” I thought I would give you another Wright brother’s “Line Art” RJ’s version. I think most people who even care just a little about history know that the Wright brothers had a bicycle shop before they got interested in flight. As a matter of fact, they had several businesses before that.

This image was inspired by a photo I took in Dayton.

I haven’t given up on doing a more pure version of line art, but I have to get my first attempts out there before I finally attempt to do that.

DD53 – Aflight

For those of you who know “line art” you will certainly tell me this is not that. Yes, I admit that I broke many rules in making the image above. But who am I if not a “rules breaker”? I did this piece a few months ago and have been reluctant to show it to you. But I finally decided

This image originated from a photo I took a while back at the Wright Brothers National Museum in Dayton, Ohio.

DD52 – Blazing Tattoo

DD52 – Blazing Tattoo

I am having trouble staying in the box that is defined as Line Art. The idea appeals to me, but putting it into practice is another thing. This image started out in the traditional Line Art mode, but quickly demanded colors to make any sense. I have not given up on the pure sense of line art. Maybe I just need to find the right inspiration source.

This one came from a photo of a young woman taking pictures in “Old Quebec” in 2011. I loved her tattoo. I’m sure it means something, but I don’t know what that is.
