About Me

My name is RJ, and I am here to convince you that being artsy will make your life better than you even think possible. I know that almost everything today constantly demands our attention, but there is a way to set aside time to just sit back and relax and create a thing or two. Doodling and the other projects here are some of those things that might help you cope with this very complicated world and maybe even get away from your cell phone and the addictive social media for a short respite.

To get to know me a little better, here is a quick snapshot of how my creativity has grown throughout my life:

  • I was born in 1946, and even in my pre-school years I enjoyed among other things doodling and paint-by-numbers. But I just had to draw and paint outside the lines. Doing otherwise was just too limiting even for my young mind. I recognized early on that I was a “free spirit”, even if I didn’t know that is what it was called.
  • By the age of five I learned to read and within a few years I was enjoying reading novels by John Steinbeck and Jack London. As a result of those books I became a serious dreamer.
  • My grade school, high school and college years were too focused on putting on the masks that I thought others expected of me. I never allowed myself to dream much during those years ☹️
  • In my corporate life between 1970 and 2000, I created many things including software tools (now called apps) that garnered me the title of “The Database Wizard”.
  • In the first 6 years of retirement life, I had a business where I designed and fabricated country furniture and wooden toys. I thoroughly enjoyed that work. But then it was time to move on to another level of creativity.
  • In 2008 I started blogging at RJsCorner – Having My Say and have continued to do that through today. I now have 5500+ posts and counting about various subjects.
  • 2023 is when my search for creativity went into high gear. I created a Mosaic of Life that celebrates my life through 180 pictures and stories about my life and times.
  • Clothesline Art followed in 2024. It takes some of my 20,000+ photos in my portfolio and morphs them into what “My Mind’s Eye” sees when I look at them. They are often simple things that most others take for granted.
  • RJs Digital Doodles which was created in 2025 is about stretching my creativity into new and exciting places. Most of my doodles are presently abstract in nature, but I am experimenting with other types.
  • Line Art which is my 2026 artsy project is about discovering the essence of what we see in the world around us. This type of art will be as simplistic as possible and limited to only the necessary lines and a few colors.
